Dawn Yun at the San Rafael, Calif., Sunday Farmers’ Market
Dawn Yun was a vegetarian for more than 25 years and eventually became lactose intolerant. She wouldn’t give up dairy because at the time she had few yummy options to replace it. After making a basic, unflavored cashew cream recipe a light bulb went off and she knew she finally found her secret sauce. She stopped eating dairy and started Creativ Cashew Cream so others would have delicious reasons to eat more plant-based foods, too.
While cashew cream may be new to some, others including vegans, vegetarians and those who are lactose intolerant or desire a more plant-based diet, have been using it for years.
Nutritionists, dieticians, and doctors often recommend cashew cream as a delicious dairy substitute.
Cashew Cream is one of the most versatile foods on the planet. It can be cooked, heated, baked and frozen or eaten right from the container.
The natural oils in cashews provide delicious and healthy fats that have a lush and satisfying mouthfeel. That's why we decided not to add any oil to our cashew creams. The special process in which we make them means they are ultra creamy.
Cashews are super healthy and an amazing source of minerals, including iron, zinc, and calcium. Cashews contain many vitamins including C, B2 and E. Eating cashews are thought to be beneficial for maintaining strong bones, keeping hearts healthy and boosting immune systems.
Oh, and while cashews are referred to as nuts, they are actually seeds. They can be found inside a hard shell attached to the outside of a cashew apple, which is a fruit.
